In episode 728, Chris and Matt got so distracted by how boring the Ebony Blade was and how frustrating it is that Google Docs won't let you use Google's WebP files that they decided to rank image formats instead.
Formats
- PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
- JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
- GIF (Graphics Interchange Formats)
- TIFF (Tagged Image File Format)
- BMP (Windows Bitmap)
...
- WebP (Web Picture)
Disqualifications
- PSD - it's a document format
- EPS - Chris hasn't heard of it
- HEIC - no one fucking uses that shit
Tips
If, like Chris, you're frustrated with Google's love of creating new technologies like WebP and its inability to make its tools work with its own tech, there's an easy way on a Mac to convert a WebP (or AVIF) to a JPEG:
-
In the Finder, select one or more images, right-click and chose Quick Actions -> Convert Image
-
Choose the format you want and hit Convert
-
A new copy of the image appears which is actually converted
